Dubai’s UV Index regularly reaches 10–12+ during school term months — classified as “extreme” by the World Health Organisation. The UAE academic calendar runs through spring and autumn when outdoor temperatures frequently exceed 38–42°C during school hours. Do school shades need Dubai Municipality or KHDA approval?
Yes. Permanent shade structures at schools in Dubai typically require Dubai Municipality structural approval. KHDA-regulated schools may also require authority notification or approval. Schools in Abu Dhabi fall under ADEK processes. Alfajar Shades prepares and submits all required applications on behalf of the school — the facilities team does not need to manage this directly. Permit costs are passed through at cost with no markup.
Can you install school shades without disrupting the school day?
Yes. All school shade installations are scheduled during UAE academic holidays — winter, spring or summer breaks — as a standard part of how we work with schools. We plan the installation programme with your facilities manager in advance, ensuring all works are completed and the site is cleared before students return. Weekend installation is available for very small or urgent projects.
Can shades be installed over existing playground equipment?
Yes. In almost all cases, school shade structures can be installed above and around existing play equipment without removing it. Post anchor positions are planned carefully during the campus survey to avoid conflict with existing equipment, rubber flooring and drainage. Our team works around your infrastructure with minimal ground disturbance.
Can we choose colours to match our school branding?
Yes. HDPE fabric is available in over 20 colours and we bring physical fabric samples to the campus visit. Schools frequently choose colours to match their branding, house colours or school identity. Multi-colour combinations across different zones are popular — for example using the school’s primary colour for the main courtyard and a contrasting colour for walkways.
